Spring is really late

“Let’s talk about the weather”. That is the epitome of small talk. Except of course for people really dependent on or affected by the weather, such as farmers or people living in areas that experience severe snow stroms, floods and hurricanes. For most people living in modernized areas, the weather is mostly a nuisance. The past few years the weather has been quite weird though. I live in the Swedish country side. Well, actually in Götaland. The roads are in parts breaking up more or less every spring. Incidentally, I live on what sometimes is called “The King’s Road”, the stretch of which in almost all of its parts is quite old, as in a millenium. Roads are a very big part of human history, but that is often forgotten. It seems houses and buildings (i.e. monuments, often over individuals) have a much stronger protection than roads. Roads are also really the history of human activity as a sum of countless agents acting through time and space.

But I digress… Sometimes we have power outtage for some hours due to snow and ice. It is nothing really serious. The last few years have been unusual though. For example, big snow four years ago broke a lot of roofs.

Last year I noted the spring was early. This year spring has been really late. The ground was frozen into about mid April. Today, May 3, I note that the hepatica in the garden (the “wild” corner) are at about same stage as they were last year when I wrote that post (March 23). That is a difference of five, six weeks. And no leaves appearing on any trees yet.

Today it is warmer than ever. But still that icy feeling when there is a gust of wind. Oh well, it is a nuisance, not really a problem. I am not a farmer.

“Inscius”? Ehmm…

I first came up with the name “inscius” for this blog. Later I started using it as a handle. I never really thought of how it might be pronounced. However, on occasion people have vocalized it. So, finally I put myself together to find out how it is actually pronounced.

Since I am too lazy to refresh my long-forgotten miniscule knowledge of phonetic script, I will here refer to some videos on youtube.

First, two from the channel latintutorial about classic Latin pronounciation of Consonants and Vowels.

Secondly, an example of how the word “inscius” is actually pronounced. What Horatius was on about in his Ode? I have no idea.

Without knowing how Latin is pronounced, my assumption of how it sounds was pretty accurate. Actually, standard Swedish spelling/pronounciation is more close to Latin than is the case with English.

A very special day

Weather report: Sunshine, no wind, around zero and some snow remain. A very bright day.

Today is a very special day.

Economy report: Economic equality is increasing by leaps and bounds, employment and self-employment will rise and profits increase in productive business. Banks and bank oligopolies will be broken up, and One thousand nine hundred and eighty four bankers will be fined into oblivion and put in jail. Banks will no longer be subsidized. The variation in payment methods will be promoted, as most politicians believe that card companies should not have a global on/off switch on a person’s or institution’s economic transactions.

Ecology report: Farming will move to greater variation, plant and gene patents will be illegal. Insecticides and artificial fertilizers will be more taxed. Farmers, not corporations, will be in charge of their own seed.

New chemicals will be analyzed for health impact, before being used and sold.

There will be tax on aircraft fuel. This will be more efficient than emissions trading, which is just another financial transaction that really does not produce anything, except more money to traders.

Politics report: All kinds of corruption, including campaign donations, revolving doors, and nepotism will be properly labelled “corruption”. Corruption is acknowledged as being here and now, not just in other places and in other times.

“Transparency” in politics will truly be about transparency, and not opaqueness labelled “transparency”.

That’s all for the state of the world report for April 1st. Nature do not lie and rules ultimately.
