Today I for the first time heard a short poem by Portia Nelson. The author I had never heard of either.
The poem is An Autobiography in Five Chapters.
It can easily be found on the interwebs, so I will not link it here.
It is short and very good. Plain language. Neither flowery, epic nor mystical. Not Nobel Prize class, but who cares?
I read it is quite well-known both in self-help and 12 step programs. That is understandable. Whether that captures your interest or off-puts it (!), it captures life's lack of attention and compass, mistakes, bad decisions and, hopefully, finding truth and changing course.
Sometimes it takes many years to learn to avoid the pot holes, and even longer to heal.
