ClassicPress

I have been using ClassicPress since 2021. Has it been that long? I really did not like the block editor that was brought into WordPress. For a while one could use the old one, but after some time I felt like I wanted to escape, which was a sad feeling. WordPress is software that has made a huge impact, in a positive way.

Recently I had the pleasure of checking on an old blog at wordpress.com. Free version.
The editor was very puzzling. No extra addons, so it might be better with such.

I tried to correct a post that had a few mistypes. By jolly, the block editor is really annoying. It claimed there was something wrong with the code (html?) in a post written quite recently. The post looked alright when looking at the page. I did not understand what the problem was, and I failed at clearing it up. Maybe the present editor is good for moving around graphical objects? Not interested in that.

This thing with deciding on structure/layout first and then write text (well, that is what it felt like) is a backward process to an old duffer like me. Maybe I am a bit unfair, but I write, and then, I might format. When I do a double return, a new paragraph is started. Like a word processor or a typewriter. I admit the html is created seamlessly, but it feels analog and therefore understandable. And when I want some formatting done the basic tags can be found in the toolbar above. The simpler ones I usually do with markdown, but one does not have to use that.

The old standard WP was straightforward like that, at least to this old analogician. ClassicPress is that now. It is writer friendly and the overall interface is very clean. Or am I a grumpy old fart that does not keep up with the times?

Now I must log off to wax my moustache.

Cheerio
