I've previously written about two books from Dmitry_Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic Universe of Metro 2033: Metro 2033 and Metro 2034. There are many published in Russian, and some originals in other languages, but translations are few so far. In Swedish there are currently four of them. I have just read Towards the Light by Andrey Dyakov, who was born in 1978. Info about the book in Swedish here.

While Glukhovsky's books are about Moscow, Towards the Light is about St Petersburg and its surroundings. It is keeping the terrible post-atomic doom feeling of the other books, but is more straight forward action and adventure. An exciting read. Different as it is a different author writing about different characters, but still very much within the Metro universe.

I am usually not that interested in post-apocalyptic stories, but so far I really love these novels, even if the terrible future they paint is not very joyful. That the books are about Russia, a nuclear superpower, is also a reminder of the atomic age and the Cold War, which never really left us. However, the power is mainly not in contemporary allegory or political commentary. The stories stand on their own feet. I do not know how many of the books are translated into English, but I strongly recommend a read, if you can get your hands on any of them.
